Ancient Olympia

The Site

Another amazing site with our local guide Nikki!  The athletes in my family (which is pretty much everyone) were looking forward to this site's history more than anything!  With our guide we were able to jump all lines and were walked through the museum and the site with great information!  The nicest part about having these guides in the museum is that you get to know exactly what to focus on!

The Museum

This museum had a lot to offer! The relics help showcase the events that took place and what people valued.  After the first couple of days into this trip, we were worried the museums would get redundant and boring.  That could not be farther from what actually happened! With having local guides, it made things easier to understand and see their impact in the site outside.  There is a very nice balance of art, everyday objects, combat gear, and toys in each museum!

Lasting Memory

One fact that I think about from this stop was on your way into the stadium itself, there are long lines of pedestals that used to have statues on them.  We all thought that they were "the greats" of the Olympic Games, but then we found out that the statues were all people that had cheated! When new athletes walked into the stadium, they would spit on the statues!
