Athens and the Acropolis

After meeting our amazing guide Anastasia and finding our famous "buddies", we not only explored the city and its shops, but we also got a fabulous dinner underneath the Acropolis! Our guide got us in a spot where we could all see the gorgeous view!

The Acropolis

The hike up was well paced and our local guide, Mama Faye, helped us navigate the crowds! She had insider information on the restoration process and the meaning of the relics.  Having a local guide like her helps Rick Steves maintain great relationships with the local vendors and takes some of the pressure off of our tour guide.  Mama Faye helped us know the rules of the site so we could be educated tourists and respect the site!

Acropolis Museum

The Acropolis Museum showed us original features of the Parthenon that are now protected inside.  We learned that backpacks must be worn on the front so you don't bump into anything, since, like this original column, there is nothing blocking it.  This trip features countless museums that all tell different stories! This trip is great for people who are history buffs and people who are just being introduced to ancient civilizations!

Lasting Memory

As we were eating dinner the first night with our group, I got the call that I had gotten my first teaching job at my number one school! So not only is Athens a city I remember as being beautiful and historic, but it is also where I found out life changing news!  The whole restaurant joined in my families' celebration, and it was so special to experience that with the other members of the Rick Steves tour!
