Hydra: Island Life

Island Life

We were very excited to come to the "stereotypical Greek" location with the donkeys and white buildings.  These donkeys are hard workers, and something we did not anticipate was how loud they would be!  The walkability of this island is great and very flat.  Something my family considers when travelling is walkability, since some family members cannot walk uphill very well.  This trip had a lot of walking, but it also had options for those who could not walk the sites.

Exploring

We went on a giant walk through the village and island! To be honest, our maps app was not helpful and we got very lost, but we were not upset by that, and we found our way back! On our walk, we made sure to visit the Leonard Cohen Bench, the peak church, and the gelato shop!  While we were ascending, we passed a nun who spoke no English, and she was holding freshly baked rye bread.  She prayed over us and gave us this delicious bread!

Lasting Memory

Whenever I think about Hydra, I remember just sitting in the harbor watching all of the boats come and go.  It was so peaceful and I was glad to share that moment with my dad.  We explored everything here as a family, and this location was really special for all of us!
